Internal Painting & Decorating

This guy came and quoted and made soo much promises. Started the job as agreed. Took 50% down payment and halfway into the job started demanding the balance. He was given half of the balance. Thereafter stated with excuses. He has problems at home. The car is broken down. His mate didn’t turn up. Stop picking calls. In the end, didn’t turn up again. £7500 out of pocket with half job done. Left paint all over the floor. Left rubbish and just walked away. I will stay away from this tradesman

Stay clear. Will take your money. Do half the job and walk away

  • TRADESPERSON, 5/02/2026 09:59

Winston, for the record, the works were proceeding in accordance with our agreement until we reached the downstairs areas, at which point we were subjected to persistent pressure to accelerate the programme beyond what was reasonably practicable or professionally acceptable. Your assertion that you are £7,500 “out of pocket” is incorrect. The factual position is that I incurred labour costs of £7,000 for two painters over a 20-day period (£350 per painter per day), plus £800 in materials, for which I hold

full receipts. On that basis, I am approximately £300 out of profit, not you. Furthermore, during the course of the works we were required to strip five layers of existing wallpaper. This was not included within the original scope or price — only limited wallpaper removal was allowed for — and resulted in a substantial increase in time and labour undertaken at my expense. Progress on site was repeatedly disrupted due to residents and staff moving through the working areas. I proposed working during evenin

g hours to mitigate this, but that proposal was declined. I also have a recorded telephone conversation in which your manager acknowledged that we were being rushed and confirmed that a resident with dementia was moving freely through the property throughout the day, which made safe and continuous working impossible. In light of these circumstances, we reasonably concluded that the working environment was unsuitable for the safe and proper completion of the contract. As prev

  • TRADESPERSON, 5/02/2026 10:04

iously stated, you are free to retain the remaining £2,500 and arrange for completion by others. It is my view that few, if any, professional decorators would agree to operate under the conditions we encountered.

  • HOMEOWNER, 5/02/2026 10:37

The bottom line is, YOU quoted for the job. No one forced you to take it. You took the £7500, did part of the job and disappeared. I do not need to go back and forth with you. The £2500 is not yours and you can’t say I’m free to take it. No tradesman will do the job is your opinion. I am 100% this is not your first doing this, and will not be your last. I have moved on, please do I will NOT recommend anyone to use you. That’s purely based on my experience

An excellent service from all involved. The lead decorator was outstanding and never stopped working. As I am disabled they were so very helpful. Straightforward down to earth lads they were a pleasure to work with.
